FAQ: Hypnotherapy and NLP.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is therapy using hypnosis.
Hypnosis is merely an altered state. It’s not every altered state, but one that we experience every day. We hypnotise ourselves when watching TV and become oblivious to everything else going on around us. After a drive in the car, we often can’t remember parts of the journey because we focus is on driving and little else. That’s hypnosis. In this state we are most creative, we have our best ideas when we turn the volume down in our heads. Hypnotherapy uses this state to allow you to make positive changes which can be carried out at an unconscious level.
Can you make me do what I don’t want to do under hypnosis?
Absolutely not. Your mind is extremely powerful, and its prime purpose is to look after you. If Suggestions were made which didn’t suit you, you could open your eyes and come out of trance immediately.
What if I don’t wake up?
I have never known that to happen. In fact I’m sure that it isn’t possible, after all you wake up in the morning, and part of sleep is the hypnotic state itself.
What if I fall asleep?
Some people do, but that’s okay, because they probably need to. Anxious people often suffer from lack of sleep. Even in the sleep state hypnosis will work, Suggestions can be made and accepted, we never turn off our sense of hearing even when we are asleep.
What if I don’t like the hypnotic state?
I haven’t met anybody that doesn’t like it yet! Hypnosis is a deeply relaxing state, and people report that they really enjoy the feeling of relaxation.
What is a trance?
Trance is a form of daydreaming. We all need to daydream, it’s where we go to to solve a problems.
What is NLP?
NLP respects we all have a unique and individual way of interpreting the world, and that we have progressed through life doing the best we can with the resources that we have available to us. We programme ourselves to deal with our world in the best possible way we can, and we work these programmes at an unconscious level. Sometimes the way in which we have “programmed” ourselves, is no longer fit for purpose, and woe end up with unwanted behaviours, habits and beliefs. NLP looks at changing this in order to reproduce the results we want with consistency. “If you do what you’ve always done, you will get what you’ve always got

What is the unconscious mind?
Simply put, it’s everything in your mind that you are not aware of. Until you read this you were not aware of your breathing or your heart beating, your brain controls your body unconsciously. Our brains receive huge amounts of information every second, and it would be impossible to deal with this at a conscious level. Our unconscious minds are a huge storage unit for all our memories and experiences. The prime function of our unconscious minds is to keep us safe, and it creates patterns of behaviour which from time to time become outdated.
What do I need to succeed in change?
A realisation that something in your life has to change
The change has to be done for your own benefit, not because someone else wants you to.
Realise that the time is NOW.
